Eligibility also depends on occupancy. The two higher rebate tiers are reserved for an owner's principal residence (as of mid-2026), which usually leaves a seasonal camp at the any-income level. Seasonal places raise one more placement question. Nobody shovels around the outdoor unit between visits, so stand height and a spot away from roof runoff matter even more than at a year-round house. Access matters too: a unit tucked on the lake side of a cottage can be hard to reach for service after a storm if the path is not plowed, so we weigh the view against the winter walk.
